In a significant development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested an MBBS student from West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur district, suspected of having links to terror outfits. Janisur Alam, alias Nisar Alam, a student of Al-Falah University in Haryana, was arrested on Friday morning from the Surjapur Bazar area after NIA sleuths tracked his movements through mobile-tower location data. Alam, who had travelled to his ancestral home in Uttar Dinajpur to attend a relative's wedding, was intercepted on his way back. The NIA suspects him of being involved in the recent Delhi blast case, although the agency has yet to provide detailed information on the alleged links. During questioning, Alam allegedly attempted to flee, leading to his detention. Digital devices and documents were seized from his possession, and he is currently being taken to Siliguri for further questioning and investigation. Relatives and family members have described Alam as a quiet, studious individual with no apparent connection to any such events. However, the NIA is investigating whether he has any direct connection to the Delhi blast, which killed 13 people and injured several others. The arrest comes after the NIA raided the residence of migrant worker Moinul Hasan in Murshidabad district, searching for links to extremist organisations. The agency is examining whether Hasan had any connections to Alam or other terror suspects during his time in Delhi and Mumbai.
