Asaduddin Owaisi, president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has expressed disappointment over the failure of the INDIA bloc to stop the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar's assembly elections. In an interview, Owaisi attributed the bloc's failure to the split in the Muslim vote, which he believes was exploited by the NDA. The AIMIM won five seats in the Seemanchal region, accounting for nearly half the number of Muslim legislators in the new assembly. Owaisi stated that his party will respect the voters' mandate and play a role of 'constructive cooperation' to develop the region, which he described as India's most underdeveloped area. Owaisi criticized the INDIA bloc for relying on the Muslim-Yadav (MY) vote-bank without delivering on their promises. He argued that Muslims have been treated as mere voters rather than citizens, and that the bloc's strategy has failed to bring about development in Muslim areas. The AIMIM president also dismissed allegations that his party is the 'B-team' of the BJP, citing the party's inability to stop Narendra Modi from becoming the Prime Minister for the third time. Owaisi expressed confidence that his party will expand its presence across India, starting with Uttar Pradesh, and that Muslims will no longer be used as a 'plastic cup' for political gain. Owaisi's comments come as the AIMIM has emerged as a significant player in Bihar's politics, and his party's performance has raised questions about the effectiveness of the INDIA bloc in delivering on its promises to Muslims and other marginalized communities.
