Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed that ensuring ease of justice is crucial for achieving ease of living and ease of doing business in the country. Speaking at the National Conference on Strengthening Legal Aid Delivery Mechanisms at the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of legal aid in making justice accessible to all. According to PM Modi, significant progress has been made in the past few years to ensure ease of justice, including the resolution of millions of disputes through Lok Adalats and pre-litigation settlements. The Legal Aid Defence Counsel System has also led to the resolution of nearly 800,000 criminal cases in just three years, providing justice to the poor, Dalits, oppressed, and marginalized sections of society. The Prime Minister emphasized that when justice is accessible, timely, and unbiased, it becomes the foundation of social justice. He also praised the new Mediation Act for carrying forward the tradition of mediation in the country's civilization and giving it a modern form. Additionally, PM Modi highlighted the role of technology in empowering citizens and promoting inclusion in justice delivery. The e-courts project is a testament to this, making justice more accessible to people across the country. The two-day conference, organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), will focus on key aspects of the legal services framework, including the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System, panel lawyers, and financial management of legal services institutions.
