Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a veiled attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had recently dived into a pond to catch fish in Bihar. Speaking at a public rally in Sitamarhi, PM Modi targeted Rahul Gandhi without naming him, saying that some 'big names' are coming to the state and 'practicing' for their potential 'drowning' in the Bihar elections. PM Modi was referring to Rahul Gandhi's recent visit to a fishing village in Begusarai, where he jumped into a muddy pond to interact with the fishermen community. The Congress leader was accompanied by several other politicians, including former state minister Mukesh Sahni and party leader Kanhaiya Kumar. In his speech, PM Modi also trained his guns at the RJD-led Opposition in Bihar, alleging that they would 'put pressure' on people if voted to power. He accused the Opposition of promoting 'misgovernance', 'cruelty', and 'corruption' in the state. The PM's remarks come ahead of the second phase of elections in Bihar, scheduled for November 11. The first phase saw a 64.69% voter turnout, which the Opposition is using to claim that people are in favour of a regime change in the state. However, PM Modi believes that the prevailing sentiment in the state is in favour of the ruling NDA. PM Modi has been addressing several rallies in the state since the elections were announced, and his latest remarks are part of his efforts to woo voters ahead of the second phase of polls.
