New Delhi: In a recent development, Parag Jain, the head of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), has been given additional charge of Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat. This move comes after the post remained vacant since July 31, 2025, when Harinath Mishra retired. According to an order by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer from the Punjab cadre, will oversee the administrative functioning of the Special Protection Group (SPG), the elite security agency responsible for the Prime Minister's security. The move follows the appointment of RA Chandrashekhar to the post in June, but he was later assigned as the Kerala police chief before taking over. Since then, Manoj Govil, Secretary (Coordination), has been holding the additional charge. Jain's additional charge will be in effect until a regular incumbent is appointed or until further notice, whichever is earlier. As Secretary (Security), he will play a crucial role in ensuring the security of the Prime Minister and other high-profile individuals.
