Jaipur, Rajasthan - The state government has appointed V Srinivas as its new Chief Secretary, a position he will hold until his scheduled retirement in 2026. A seasoned bureaucrat with a career spanning over three decades, Srinivas has held various key positions in the past. He joins the state cadre after serving on central deputation for seven years, including a stint as Secretary for Pensions and Pensioners' Welfare in the Union government. The 1989-batch IAS officer will also take charge as Chairman of the Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd and Principal Resident Commissioner in New Delhi. His appointment comes after the Centre relieved outgoing Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant, who will now join the Central government. Pant's departure marks the beginning of a major administrative reshuffle in the state. Srinivas, who will be the senior-most IAS officer in Rajasthan from December, has been a part of several significant roles throughout his career. He has held positions such as Collector of Pali and Jodhpur, as well as serving as Director of Watershed Development and Soil Conservation Department. His career has also seen him work as Private Secretary to former External Affairs and Finance Minister Jaswant Singh and as Technical Assistant to India's Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC. Srinivas has superseded only one officer in the seniority list, with Subodh Agarwal set to retire in December, making him the second-most senior IAS officer in the state cadre. This development is expected to lead to further administrative changes in the state government.
