The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the Red Fort blast that killed 13 people on November 10. Preliminary investigations suggest that the blast was a terror attack, with key clues pointing to a possible plot involving a Kashmir-based doctor. Key investigators believe that Dr. Umar Un Nabi, a Pulwama native, was driving the car that exploded near the Red Fort. Nabi is allegedly linked to a terror module busted in Faridabad, a neighboring city, just days earlier. The car was registered in the name of a man who sold it to another individual, who in turn sold it to Nabi. The Faridabad connection was found when police in Haryana identified Nabi as one of the key operatives connected to the recovery of nearly 2,900 kilograms of explosives and inflammable material from the city. Nabi worked as a doctor at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, where he met another doctor, Dr. Muzammil Shakil, who was arrested in the Faridabad terror module case. Another doctor, Adeel Ahmad Rather, is believed to have played an active role in planning the Red Fort operation alongside Nabi. Police in Faridabad are scanning CCTV camera footage to determine whether Nabi and Shakil traveled together to Delhi to plant the ammonium nitrate. The network behind the blast is still under active investigation, with investigators verifying the extent of Nabi's involvement with the others. The Red Fort blast was so intense that it suggested the use of a high-intensity explosive, and investigators are also looking into whether the blast was triggered by a device in the car that may have gone off accidentally. In a related development, police in Jammu and Kashmir carried out raids and picked up six people, including three family members of Nabi. The raids were carried out as a preventive measure, following fears of a terror attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged that conspirators behind the blast will be brought to justice. The NIA probe is ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
