In a major security overhaul ahead of Republic Day, the Central Vista project has been temporarily halted, and snipers will be deployed at all high-rise towers in the New Delhi area. According to officials, the defence ministry issued directions to halt construction activity around Kartavya Path due to heightened security concerns. Following a car blast near the Red Fort in November, which killed 13 people and injured several others, the government has implemented unprecedented security measures. This includes a ban on issuing labour tokens for any renovation, maintenance, or construction work related to the Central Vista project until January 26. Over 75 government and private offices in the area will remain closed, with buildings sealed and snipers deployed at select high-rises. The number of snipers has been doubled this year, and an anti-drone team has been deployed at each building. The move aims to address the changing tactics of terrorists, who are increasingly resorting to sneak attacks. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is leading the probe into the Red Fort blast, which is suspected to be linked to a terror module. Multiple arrests and searches have been carried out, and the Union government has termed the incident a terrorist attack. As the capital gears up for Republic Day celebrations, security will be at its highest, with a focus on preventing any potential threats. The deployment of snipers and anti-drone teams is a testament to the government's commitment to ensuring a safe and smooth celebration.
