In a significant development, Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary has been elected unopposed as the national president of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) at a convention held in Mathura, a move seen as a boost to the party's fortunes. Speaking at the event, Chaudhary reaffirmed the RLD's commitment to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and expressed gratitude for the trust bestowed upon him. Chaudhary's election as RLD chief comes at a time when the party is looking to expand its influence in Uttar Pradesh, where it currently has nine MLAs in the state assembly. The party also has two MPs in the Lok Sabha and one in the Rajya Sabha. In a statement, Anupam Mishra, RLD's national secretary, said that the national convention 2025 was a significant event that saw the adoption of several key resolutions, including an economic resolution focused on farmers, a social resolution addressing the needs of youth and women, and a political resolution recognizing India's growing global stature. As RLD chief, Chaudhary has pledged to prioritize the welfare of farmers, the poor, and labourers, and has promised to make the sugar mill in Chhata operational. He has also expressed his commitment to promoting women's empowerment within the party and has vowed to take steps to benefit women through reservation. Chaudhary's election as RLD chief is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party's position in the NDA and to cement its ties with the ruling coalition. The party's plans to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of its founder, Chaudhary Charan Singh, with the planting of 1.25 crore saplings, are also seen as a gesture of its commitment to the needs of the rural community.
