Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has called on Hindus to put aside caste divisions in national matters. Speaking during an internal question-and-answer session in Bengaluru, Bhagwat stated that politicians are responsible for dividing people along caste lines and urged Hindus to reject such divisions. Bhagwat's comments come as Bihar is in the midst of an assembly election, where caste has played a significant role in determining electoral outcomes. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has positioned itself as a party that transcends castes, in an effort to counter the social justice narrative of opposition parties. Bhagwat emphasized the importance of unity among Hindus, which he defined as everyone living in India, including Muslims and Christians. He acknowledged that the RSS has been critical of caste divisions since its inception in 1925, but critics argue that the organization seeks to erase caste from the narrative to suit its vision of a 'Hindu nation'. Looking ahead to the next two decades, Bhagwat outlined the RSS's vision for a unified Hindu society that would create a prosperous and strong India. He emphasized that the organization's mission is to organize and empower Hindu society, which would then drive India's progress and spread dharma knowledge globally, ultimately leading to a happier, more peaceful world. Bhagwat's comments have sparked debate, with some questioning the RSS's intentions and whether the organization truly seeks to eradicate caste divisions. Nevertheless, the RSS chief remains committed to his vision of a unified Hindu society, which he believes is essential for India's growth and prosperity.
