A planned march around the disputed Shahi Jama Masjid-Harihar temple site in Sambhal has sparked concerns about communal harmony. The 'Harihar Mandir Padyatra' is scheduled for November 19, with devotees planning to cover a 2.5-km route. Organizers claim the march will be peaceful and symbolize the site's religious significance, but the mosque committee has opposed it, citing the sensitive nature of the situation. District authorities are yet to decide on granting permission, with the administration set to review the issue on the day of the march. The site has been at the center of a long-standing dispute, with a court case ongoing. Last year, violence broke out during protests, resulting in four fatalities. The area has been under heightened security since, with prohibitory orders in place. The mosque committee president, Zafar Ali, has urged the administration to deny permission, warning that the march could disrupt communal harmony. In contrast, the mahant of Kela Devi temple, Rishi Raj Giri, claims the march will not violate existing orders and is a peaceful expression of devotion. The Supreme Court is currently hearing the case, with a district court also involved. The district magistrate has confirmed that security arrangements have been strengthened in the area.
