The Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has asked the producers of the upcoming animation film 'Hind Di Chadar' to halt its release, citing concerns over the film's portrayal of Sikh principles and history. The film, set to be released on November 21, is based on the life of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. According to Kulwant Singh Mannan, the chief secretary of the SGPC, the film contains several shortcomings that may offend Sikh sentiments. In a letter to the film's producers, Mannan requested that they withdraw the decision to screen the film, citing instructions from the Akal Takht Sahib, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh faith. Mannan emphasized that depicting Sikh Gurus through animation or imagination is strictly prohibited, as per Sikh principles and earlier edicts from the Akal Takht. He also pointed out that such films not only hurt Sikh sentiments but also create unnecessary controversy, particularly at a time when the Sikh community is commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. The decision to block the film's release has been taken in light of a report submitted by the film review committee to the Akal Takht. The SGPC has urged filmmakers to be more mindful of Sikh principles and history when creating projects related to the Sikh faith.
