In a major breakthrough, six Myanmarese poachers were arrested by the Andaman and Nicobar Police, along with the Indian Armed Forces, in a joint operation in the remote Tillang Chong island. The poachers were caught on November 15, after a thorough search and intelligence input led to the operation, code-named 'Castle Bay'. According to the Andaman and Nicobar Police DGP, Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, the poachers were found with a large quantity of sea cucumbers, which are highly endangered and play a crucial role in maintaining the ocean's cleanliness. The poachers were using drones and exploiting the island's difficult terrain to evade capture. This operation is part of a larger effort by the Andaman and Nicobar Police to protect the fragile island environment and safeguard India's maritime boundaries. The police team, along with the Indian Armed Forces, worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the operation. In a related development, the Andaman and Nicobar Police had arrested 23 foreign poachers in September, seizing nearly 550 kg of sea cucumbers. According to statistics available with the police, a total of 66, 98, 70, and 73 Myanmarese poachers were arrested in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, respectively. The Andaman and Nicobar Police have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the island environment and ensuring the safety and security of the islands and its people. The operation is seen as a significant step towards preventing the exploitation of the island's natural resources and preserving its biodiversity.
