Revenue staff in Tamil Nadu have announced a statewide boycott of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work starting November 18, citing overwhelming workload, inadequate training, and insufficient resources. The boycott is the latest development in a controversy surrounding the SIR process, which several parties, including the ruling DMK coalition, have opposed due to its timing just months before the 2026 assembly elections. According to the Federation of Revenue Associations (FERA), the boycott demands improved training for officials, the appointment of additional Booth Level Officers, and a more manageable workload. The staff, who are responsible for distributing and collecting Enumeration Forms (EFs) and uploading them online, have expressed concerns about their ability to complete the task within the given timeframe. "We're expected to distribute over 1,200 forms and collect them within two days, without adequate training on digital aspects," said a Booth Level Officer from Chennai. "It's extremely difficult to complete such a massive exercise within a short period, on top of our regular workload and responsibilities.
