Heavy rain warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have led to a school closure in Puducherry and Karaikal. The decision to shut down all government, government-aided, and private schools, along with colleges, was made to ensure student safety amidst the severe weather conditions. This move affects thousands of students in the region. The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall in isolated areas across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Mahe on Tuesday. In Tamil Nadu, a yellow alert has been issued, warning of heavy rain in some districts. The IMD's daily weather bulletin predicts light to moderate rain in many places, with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. Chennai, however, remains under a yellow alert, but the government has not issued any official notification on school closures in the city. As a result, schools in Chennai are functioning normally, with parents advised to follow their usual routines unless further instructions are issued. The decision to close schools in Puducherry and Karaikal comes after several districts in the region witnessed closures on Monday due to persistent heavy rainfall. The authorities are taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students and faculty members during this severe weather event.
