In a significant development in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has taken an early lead in the Raghopur constituency. His estranged brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, who recently formed the Janashakti Janata Dal (JJD), is struggling to maintain his lead in the Mahua seat. The counting of votes for the 243-member Bihar assembly began at 8 am on Friday, with Tejashwi Yadav, the chief ministerial candidate of the Mahagathbandhan, leading in Raghopur. The seat, located in the Vaishali district, is emerging as a key contest. Tej Pratap Yadav, son of RJD chief Lalu Prasad and elder brother of Tejashwi Yadav, was initially leading in Mahua but later trailed behind RJD candidate Mukesh Kumar Raushan and Lok Janshakti Party's Sanjay Kumar Singh. Tejashwi Yadav, seeking a hat-trick in Raghopur, expressed confidence in the Mahagathbandhan's victory, saying, "A change is about to come. We are forming the government." The elections recorded a historic overall voter turnout of 66.91 per cent, with the Election Commission set to declare the official results on Friday. The high-stakes contest will decide whether JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar and his NDA alliance will return to power or whether the Tejashwi Yadav-led Mahagathbandhan will spring a surprise in Bihar.
