In a significant development, the Telangana High Court has extended its interim order protecting Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, former minister Harish Rao, and others from any adverse action related to alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project. The order, which was extended till January 2026, comes as the state government seeks more time to file counter affidavits in response to the writ petitions filed by the BRS leaders. A judicial commission, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice P.C. Ghose, had investigated the allegations of irregularities in the project's construction during the previous BRS tenure. The commission's report, tabled in the state assembly in August, implicated KCR and Harish Rao in the alleged irregularities. The government has since decided to hand over the investigation to the CBI. The High Court's decision to extend the interim protection to KCR, Harish Rao, and others is a temporary reprieve for the BRS leaders, who are facing allegations of wrongdoing in the project's execution. The matter will be taken up by the court again in January 2026, when the state government is expected to file its counter affidavits.
