TMC MP and Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha has sparked surprise in the political circle with his praise for Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following the NDA's landslide victory in the state's assembly elections. Kumar's JD(U) party is a key constituent of the NDA, winning 85 out of 101 seats it contested. Sinha, a veteran politician who has switched parties multiple times, took to X to congratulate the people of Bihar and Kumar, who is also the JD(U) chief. He described Kumar as a 'gentleman politician' who has lived up to the people's expectations, making him the longest-serving and most trusted CM in the state. Sinha's statement has raised eyebrows, especially given his party's stance. When questioned about Sinha's comment, TMC spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya stated that it was the actor-turned-politician's personal opinion, not a reflection of the party's view. However, Bhattacharya added that the party will discuss the matter further to understand Sinha's reasoning. BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, on the other hand, claimed that Sinha's praise for Kumar has exposed the rift within the TMC and his alleged disenchantment with the party's top leadership. Sinha was elected as an MP from Asansol in West Bengal in 2022 and re-elected in 2024. Sinha's praise for Kumar has brought to light his complex political history, having been a Union minister under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a BJP MP, and a Congress and TMC MP at different points in his career. His statement has sparked debate and speculation about his intentions, with many questioning whether his praise for Kumar is a genuine expression of admiration or a calculated move to further his own interests.
