In the aftermath of the devastating car bomb blast at the Red Fort in Delhi, investigators have uncovered a crucial lead. The suspected driver, Dr. Umar Un-Nabi, and his associate, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, made a trip to Turkey in 2022, according to an initial probe. These two doctors, with a long history of association, hail from the same village in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, and worked together at a medical college in Faridabad. Police had previously tracked their movements to the blast site near Red Fort and Chandni Chowk in January, based on their call records. Dr. Ganaie was arrested two weeks ago in a separate case involving radical posters in the Kashmir Valley. His interrogation led to the discovery of an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed module in Faridabad, where police found nearly 3,000 kg of ammonium nitrate and other explosive materials. As part of their investigation, authorities discovered that Dr. Ganaie and Dr. Umar had spent three years at Al Falah University in Faridabad. The police accessed their records and found that they had traveled to Turkey in 2022, not for a medical conference, but to meet with Jaish-e-Mohammed handlers. This revelation was confirmed after analyzing Dr. Ganaie's phone records. During his interrogation, Dr. Ganaie allegedly told police that he and Dr. Umar had indeed visited Turkey after receiving instructions from their handlers. The blast occurred around 6:50 pm on an arterial road near the Red Fort, killing at least 10 people and injuring 21. The impact of the blast was severe, with charred body parts scattered far from the site, but it did not create a crater on the road. Police believe that the doctors' cell of the Jaish-e-Mohammed module had been secretly storing explosives, arms, and ammunition, and were planning a series of blasts across North India. The case has been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and police are conducting raids to apprehend more suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are likely to emerge in the coming days.
