A devastating mine collapse at a stone quarry in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra has left three workers dead and nine others trapped. The incident occurred on Saturday at the Billi Markundi site, where around 12 people were believed to be working. While two of the deceased were found on Sunday, one was confirmed dead on the day of the incident, authorities said. One of the victims has been identified as Raju Singh (30), a resident of Panari village in Sonbhadra district. Rescue efforts are underway, led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Divisional commissioner Rajesh Prakash said it's too early to provide an exact number of trapped workers. A magisterial probe has been ordered into the cause of the incident, with UP minister Sanjeev Gond promising an investigation and action against those responsible. Additional district magistrate Vagish Singh has been tasked with conducting an inquiry. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to clear the debris and locate the trapped workers. Heavy machinery and specialized personnel have been deployed to aid in the rescue efforts, with officials stating that adequate equipment and resources are available. The administration is working around the clock to ensure the safe recovery of the trapped workers, but the rescue process is being slowed by the large size of the falling stones. Officials are optimistic that with the right resources and team effort, they can locate the trapped workers soon.
