A group of over two dozen US lawmakers from both the Democratic and Republican parties are set to introduce a resolution this week, calling for stronger US-India relations. The proposed legislation, led by Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera, aims to enhance cooperation within the Quad, strengthen defense, technology, and trade ties. This move is seen as a signal to decision-makers in both countries that Congress values the India-US partnership, especially after recent tensions over trade and India's Russian energy purchases. The resolution recognizes the India-US strategic partnership as crucial for regional stability, economic growth, and global security. It encourages continued cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and through the Quad, as well as closer technology collaboration and counterterrorism efforts. Bera, who is currently the most senior Indian-American politician in the House of Representatives, believes this bipartisan effort is essential to reaffirm the US-India relationship's importance. The resolution has been backed by 24 lawmakers, including prominent Democrats and Republicans, such as Raja Krishnamoorthi, Rich McCormick, and Young Kim. It also highlights the significant contributions of the Indian-American community in various fields and acknowledges the need to address a sharp rise in racist rhetoric aimed at Indians in the US. By introducing this resolution, lawmakers hope to demonstrate their support for the US-India relationship and encourage the Indian-American community to engage with their representatives on this issue.
