A major milestone for Indian Railways is set to be achieved by mid-2026 with the completion of the country's first Vande Bharat train sleeper coach maintenance facility at Bhagat Ki Kothi Railway station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. According to Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer Major Amit Swamy, the ₹360 crore facility will be equipped with cutting-edge technology, including a dedicated wheel rack system and a specialized testing laboratory with simulators for training and evaluating high-tech equipment. The facility, which is being constructed by North Western Railway in partnership with Railway Vikas Nigam Limited and Kinet Railway Solution, will have a 600-metre track for maintaining 24 sleeper coaches, as well as a 178-metre track for the second phase, set to be completed by June 2027. This state-of-the-art depot will be capable of inspecting and maintaining three trains simultaneously, with advanced machinery for lifting entire train rakes and transferring bogies. The facility will be a significant addition to the four other maintenance depots being established in Bijwasan (Delhi), Thanisandra (Bengaluru), Anand Vihar (Delhi), and Wadi Bandar (Mumbai), which will cater to the growing demand for Vande Bharat train maintenance. With the capacity to maintain eight to nine trains daily, the Jodhpur facility will play a crucial role in ensuring the precision, safety, and performance of India's high-speed rail network.
