A recent video showing alleged prison violations at Bengaluru Central Prison has led to a probe and a flurry of FIRs. Convicts and undertrials were seen dancing, drinking, and using banned items like mobile phones in the video, which emerged on social media. The prison officials took action on a complaint by assistant superintendent Imaamasaab Myageri, who sought an investigation into how a mobile phone was smuggled into the prison, when the footage was shot, and who leaked it on social media. The Parappana Agrahara police registered a case under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons Act, dealing with the introduction or removal of prohibited items in prison. Three more FIRs were filed after separate clips appeared showing convicts allegedly using mobile phones inside the jail. Following a review meeting, State Home Minister G Parameshwara ordered the suspension of two prison officials and transferred the chief superintendent of Bengaluru Central Prison. He described the incidents as a result of repeated indiscipline and negligence among staff. Officials confirmed that the inmates were under the influence of intoxicants and were seen dancing to loud music while banging plastic cans and plates as drums. The footage showed liquor bottles and food items inside the barrack. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) questioned Kannada actor Dhanveer, a close aide of actor Darshan, over suspicions of his role in circulating the footage. Dhanveer was detained, questioned overnight, and released after his mobile phone was seized for examination.
