A high-stakes police operation unfolded in Mathura's Kosi area on Saturday morning, leaving a notorious cow smuggler injured. Siraj Jabbar Khan Ali Meo, a resident of Bahin Palwal, was wanted in connection with cow smuggling since 2016. The police, tipped off about his presence near the Haryana-Rajasthan border, attempted to apprehend him. However, Meo opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defense, resulting in a leg injury. A motorcycle, a pistol, and two live cartridges were seized from his possession. Meo has been referred to the district hospital for treatment. The police operation comes on the heels of a series of coordinated efforts by the BSF and Punjab Police to counter crime in the region. On November 1, the BSF and Punjab Police apprehended a smuggler and recovered arms and ammunition in Gurdaspur and Firozpur, respectively. A ₹25,000 reward has been issued for information leading to Meo's capture.
