The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has banned transgender women athletes from competing in the Olympics, introducing a new policy on female eligibility. The policy aligns with U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order on women's sports.

The IOC's decision limits eligibility for female category events to 'biological females' determined by a one-time SRY gene screening.

The policy is the result of an IOC review between September 2024 and March 2026, which included consultations with experts in relevant fields.

IOC chief Kirsty Coverntry said the policy is based on science and has been led by medical experts, ensuring fair competition and athlete safety.
