Ukrainian soldiers have expressed strong opposition to the US peace plan for Kyiv, calling it 'absolutely disgraceful' and 'unworthy of our attention'. The plan, leaked last week, proposes that Ukraine relinquish control of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine, a move that has sparked outrage among soldiers. According to the plan, Ukraine would be expected to give up control of the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts, a crucial objective for Russia. However, Ukrainian soldiers say that this would be a betrayal of their efforts and the sacrifices they have made. "Let them take it," said one soldier, who wished to remain anonymous. "There's practically no one left in the cities and villages... We're not fighting for the people but for the land, while losing more people." Another soldier, Andrii, described the proposal as "painful and difficult", but added that Ukraine may have no other choice. The US plan also proposes limiting Ukraine's armed forces size to 600,000, a move that has been met with skepticism by soldiers. "What's the point of having so many people in the army if there will be security guarantees?" asked one soldier. Ukraine's military strength currently exceeds 800,000, and the country's negotiator, Rustem Umerov, has said that the latest version of the US draft plan now includes most of Kyiv's "key priorities". However, the Ukrainian soldiers' opposition to the plan suggests that there is still a long way to go in the peace talks. The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has said that the peace plan was developed with input from Russia and incorporated earlier points from Ukraine.
