Dengue Outbreak in Sri Lanka: Over 5,400 Cases Reported in January

Sri Lanka is facing a significant dengue outbreak, with 5,459 cases reported in January alone, resulting in two deaths. The National Dengue Control Unit has identified 16 high-risk zones across the country, with the Western Province being the most affected, accounting for 44.7% of the total cases.
The majority of cases in the Western Province were reported in Gampaha (849) and Colombo (740). This surge in dengue cases is a concern, especially considering that Sri Lanka recorded almost 50,000 cases and 24 fatalities in 2024.
To combat the spread of dengue, authorities are urging the public to take preventive measures. Globally, dengue cases have been increasing, with over 14 million cases and 10,000 deaths reported in 2024.
